Mortal Blues

Every aspect of this piece oozed with emotion and personality, there was no doubt in my mind that this would reach the hms (at minimum) this week, and I'm so glad to see that I was not wrong. Even if the choices did get close towards Friday. I think what I love the most about this piece is that despite the overwhelming sorrow I was able to stop and really contemplate the different directions of this piece and how incredibly penned each element was. The flow to this was perfectly conversational while the word choice was a little more dressed up than the average conversation, and I absolutely adored the short stanzas and how despite their length each was paced with information or imagery.-lueJay

Honestly, I feel like the diction in this piece is what carries it along. Without such a precise sense of vocabulary this piece would not have been nearly as interesting to me. So fantastic job making this tale your own!-BlueJay

Backtracking

A visually stimulating poem. I like the contrast between man and nature. I think you are one of the most underrated poems on P&Q. your poems deserve more exposure. Yes they are deep but if you delve into them they are full of hidden treasure. Well done.-Nicko

While I feel like there are a lot of powerful emotions bubbling beneath the surface this piece feels relatively and remarkably calm. I think that was important in balancing all the harshness of this piece out though. Especially since the title plays such an important role in clarifying what this piece is getting at without any specific incidents or names. There are countless instances of contrast and balance within this piece, which really, is what I feel is the selling point of this piece this week. It is elegant and thought provoking while still having voice and fire. Everything about this one is just so captivating, especially when you break down how precisely stunning each stanza is on it's own as well as within the entire poem. Great write, definitely my favorite this week.-BlueJay

Altruism

We are sitting on tree tops when we read the poem. Philosophical!-Rajendran Muthiah

There was slaughter in the
sea of demons. I do not survive.
I do not die.

Enigmatic and mystical, a work so well versed in imagery it demands concentration. Altruism is the act of the highest humanity rising above the animal instincts of our beastly forms. Fantastic work!-Kevin Patrick

In Deep Anguish

Thinking of relation, of
connectivity between love
and hate, war and peace in my
tumultuous mind― //.... The poem is a reflection of acute pain and disgust of a soul left to fight for its place in this unkind world. Very heart touching expression. Thanks.-Rajnish Manga

The Condemned

Yes I agree, that is perhaps the only way, kissing the condemned. There are no foreigners now, it is true in some context, in every context, for there are no foreigners. -Supratik Sen, Kolkata

A thought-provoking and emotional write, Satish Verma Sir. Your condemnation is powerful as you 'wrench the emotions out of the poem'. -Leonard Dabydeen, Brampton, Ontario, Canada
