HOURGLASS

We poets extol the beauty and mystery of the moon in it’s silvery glow, but here the poet sees the paradox of hostility in beauty! It’s a state of mind—the moon not exuding beauty but pain. In the second stanza is hyperbole, and paradox as well, contrasting of the black bird, and the whiteness of the snow man—darkness against light, and finally a snow man on a lake, melting, as if sands in an hourglass! Finally, “Dance the tears/not the tango.”—not a tango of happiness, but a dance of sorrow.-oxygon

SPLITTING

A beautiful lyric, Satish, with memorable lines—”when the leafless tree was waiting?” I like the composite imagery, the leafless tree, and nakedness, a sense of vulnerability. Regards— oxygon

PLASMA SCREEN

The devastation of war invokes many dark images, and a war lost is an incalculable, a compounded suffering. —”a wound becomes a tailsman, you start collecting/the awards from severed hands.” What an antithesis to doubtful honor! A telling argument for the futility of bloodletting! This is a powerful penning, Satish, my friend.-oxygon

POETRY

The great American poet, Wallace Stevens, emphasized the power of the imagination in poetry, and here the imagination is let loose in a series if images and metaphors, that bear out Stevens’ compelling idea. I like the sudden, abrupt interjection of “ice cream cone” and “God bless the Queen.” It makes me think of Stevens’ poem, “The Emperor of Ice Cream”.-oxygon

Poetry is many a splendid thing—a collusion between darkness and light, a fusion that leads to a greater light!-oxygon

SMALL TALK

What a stark contrast—”small talk”, set against a backdrop of such startling verse: “The flesh will extract its own blood.” ! You have taken the poetic device of hyperbole to another level, Satish, in a dream-scape that is like a riddle in search of it own solution!-Oxygon

FAIRY TALE

A splendid fairy tale, Satish! I particularly love the opening stanza, the notion of the moon unwed, as if not spoken for by some admiring heart, as it casts its reflection upon the blue lake, and so endued with silence as if making love to it. Thanks for the poem that delights the “upper” ear, and makes waves upon the still waters of the mind!-oxygon

BODY GAME

I especially like the recurrent imagery and themes of the moon, and the poets communion with it in his poems. You walk in harmony with the moon upon the rough terrain of a poem! What a remarkable line! Your poetry deals so effectively with the themes of belief, desire, and the conflicts that belie the pathway of their attainment, but over and over, your quest persists in the face of violence and darkness, and triumphs, even in the weariness of the unending struggle, “like a tired cow coming/back home in evening.” This image is stunning in the depth of its illustration in the likes of the humble cow! Thanks for a splendid poetic penning – oxygon

Pathofobia

Dear Vermaji, the complexity of feelings and images presented coupled with my ignorance of the context on which it is based, often makes it difficult for me to comprehend your poems. But nevertheless, I see some flashes of greatness playing between those lines. Kudos to you. Recently I visited your Sewa Mandir Foundation website and was impressed by the philanthropic work you are promoting and by your concept of green homeopathy. My respects and best wishes to you and all your associates. -G,Kannan, Anchal
